The Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime

The Canada Resource Centre for Victims of Crime offers free, confidential support, guidance, and advocacy for victims of serious crime. They help navigate the justice system, access resources, and promote victims' rights across Canada.

The "Know Your Rights" section on the Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime (CRCVC) website provides information about the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights (CVBR), which outlines four principal rights for victims: Information, Protection, Participation, and Restitution. This section aims to help victims understand and exercise these rights throughout the criminal justice process.

The Canadian Resource Centre for Victims of Crime provides information on financial assistance programs for victims of violent crimes across Canada. Most provinces and territories offer compensation for crimes like homicide, sexual assault, and domestic violence. For Canadians victimized abroad, the federal Victims Fund may provide support. Eligibility and application details vary by region.

Victim & Witness Assistance Program (ON)

Death Investigation - Ontario

The Victim/Witness Assistance Program (VWAP) in Ontario offers free, court-based support to victims and witnesses of crime, helping them navigate the criminal justice process. Services include providing information about court procedures, case updates, emotional support, and referrals to community resources. VWAP ensures that individuals are informed and supported from the laying of charges through to the case's conclusion.

Ontario's death investigation system is a collaborative network that includes the Office of the Chief Coroner, the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, and the Centre of Forensic Sciences. Together, they conduct thorough investigations into deaths, applying advanced forensic science to serve the public and the justice system. The Centre of Forensic Sciences, one of North America's most extensive forensic facilities, provides scientific analyses in cases involving injury or death, supporting law enforcement and public safety.

Victim Impact Statement

A Victim Impact Statement (VIS) allows victims to share how a crime has affected them physically, emotionally, and financially. In Ontario, victims can submit a VIS during sentencing to ensure their voices are heard in the justice process. While voluntary, it helps the court understand the personal impact of the crime.
